Apple Reveals Smart Home Innovations for 2025 and Beyond

Apple’s smart home plans for 2025 are beginning to take shape, as discussed in the latest episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast. Alongside updates from competitors, Apple appears poised to introduce significant innovations to its smart home ecosystem.
This week, Nuki launched the Nuki Lock Ultra in Europe, with plans for a U.S. release in 2025. The updated smart lock is a third of the size and three times faster than its predecessor. While it does not include support for Apple’s Home Key, Nuki has confirmed compatibility with Aliro, a comparable technology.
Level also upgraded its Level Lock+ by rolling out a free firmware update, enabling Matter compatibility and introducing Thread support. These enhancements expand the lock’s connectivity and usability within modern smart home setups.
In other developments, Aqara is preparing to unveil a new smart water controller. The company has teased the product on its social media channels, with an official release date set for November 19.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to release a six-inch smart home display in early 2025. The device will feature a new operating system, homeOS, and include multiple mounting options, such as a stand or wall placement. A built-in FaceTime camera will also be part of the display, making it a versatile addition to Apple’s smart home lineup.
Further down the pipeline, Apple is developing a smart home security camera slated for release in 2026. Emphasizing privacy and leveraging Apple’s intelligence capabilities, this camera is expected to stand out in a competitive market.
