Apple Develops Smart Doorbell Camera with Face ID for Advanced Home Security
Apple’s Face ID-enabled smart doorbell camera may launch by 2025, integrating secure facial recognition and HomeKit compatibility.
Apple Inc. (AAPL) is reportedly working on a cutting-edge smart doorbell camera featuring its signature Face ID technology. This innovative device, potentially available by the end of 2025, aims to unlock doors using secure facial recognition.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter, the new system will function similarly to an iPhone. When a registered user or resident is recognized, the device will automatically unlock the door. Apple plans to include its Secure Enclave chip, designed to securely process and store Face ID data separately from other hardware components, ensuring robust security measures.
The smart doorbell camera is expected to integrate seamlessly with HomeKit-enabled smart locks and may involve partnerships with third-party smart lock manufacturers. Apple could also introduce a complete system in collaboration with a smart lock partner to deliver a cohesive solution at launch.
The doorbell camera will feature Apple’s in-house “Proxima” chip, a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies. This chip will also be part of upgraded Apple devices, including the HomePod Mini and Apple TV, which are set for release next year. These devices will support the Thread standard, enabling more efficient connectivity across smart home products.
This development aligns with Apple’s broader expansion into smart home technology under the Apple Intelligence initiative. Other rumored products include new smart home cameras, an Apple-branded TV, and advanced smart displays. One such display is rumored to resemble an iPad that can attach magnetically to walls or speaker bases, while another may feature a robotic arm for enhanced usability.
Apple’s strategy reflects its commitment to creating an integrated ecosystem that enhances everyday life with seamless connectivity and advanced security.
