Apple iMac M4: A New Generation with Enhanced Features and Design

The refreshed Apple iMac M4 brings enhanced performance, updated colors, and improved features without a price increase.

Apple has released its latest iMac model with the M4 processor, offering significant upgrades in performance, memory, and design. The entry-level version now features 16GB of RAM, double that of the previous model, and retains its $1,299 price tag. This updated version introduces subtle but notable design and performance improvements.

The M4-powered iMac is available in a refreshed range of colors: silver, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue. While these hues match prior color options, each has been refined for a fresher and more dynamic look. The iMac accessories, including the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad, are now color-matched to the computer, and even the wallpaper aligns with the device’s color theme. However, the Magic Mouse’s charging setup, which requires it to be flipped on its back, remains unchanged.

Apple’s transition from a Lightning connector to USB-C on the iMac’s accessories aligns with industry trends, adding convenience. The front-facing Center Stage camera, designed to improve video call experiences, now offers a Desk View feature that shows both the user and their workspace during calls, enhancing usability in remote communication.

The 24-inch display, identical in resolution to the previous model at 4480 x 2520 pixels, now includes an optional nano-texture finish, reducing glare and reflections. This matte finish, previously available only on the 27-inch iMac, is exclusive to the higher-end M4 model with a 10-core CPU and GPU.

Powered by Apple’s latest M4 processor, the new iMac delivers a noticeable boost in speed and efficiency, further supported by macOS Sequoia 15.1 and Apple Intelligence. These updates optimize the user experience, particularly on resource-intensive tasks. Additionally, all rear ports on the iMac are now Thunderbolt 4, offering faster data transfer and broader connectivity options.

While there is no M4 Pro variant, the M4 processor in this model is a strong choice for general use. It provides sufficient speed for most users, and the enhanced Thunderbolt 4 connections, RAM upgrade, and USB-C accessory update create a versatile, streamlined experience.
