Apple to Switch iPhone 17 Models to Aluminum Frames, Bigger Camera Modules
Apple plans significant design changes for the iPhone 17 lineup, including a shift to aluminum frames and larger camera modules for Pro models.
Apple is making significant changes to the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, with new reports revealing a shift from titanium to aluminum frames across all models. According to The Information, the entire iPhone 17 series, including the Pro variants, will feature aluminum frames instead of the titanium previously expected. While the specific reasons for this decision are unclear, the change appears imminent.
In addition to this shift in materials, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to see further design tweaks, particularly in their camera modules. The rear camera bump on these models is set to become even larger, with a rectangular aluminum frame replacing the traditional 3D glass design. The new configuration could occupy more space on the back of the device than before.
The back of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will also feature a hybrid design, with the top half incorporating aluminum and the bottom half retaining glass to support wireless charging functionality. This redesign points to a more significant overhaul of the Pro models’ aesthetics, building on earlier rumors of a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to be equipped with 12GB of RAM and enhanced cooling technology, which would improve both performance and efficiency. These hardware upgrades suggest that Apple is focusing on offering a more refined and powerful user experience with the iPhone 17 lineup.
