Apple iPhone 18 Pro primary camera likely to have a variable aperture, know details about it

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to feature a variable aperture, enhancing user photography options and depth control.

The global launch of the Apple iPhone 16 series earlier this year met with strong interest among smartphone enthusiasts. Now, just a few months later, rumors have surfaced about the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 series. Surprisingly, this speculation leaps ahead of the anticipated iPhone 17 series release, expected in 2025, with the iPhone 18 series projected to debut in 2026.

Reports have circulated that the iPhone 17 series might offer a variable aperture camera. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now provided insights that the iPhone 18 Pro will likely feature this variable aperture functionality in its primary camera. This suggests that while an iPhone 17 model could showcase the feature first, Apple appears committed to advancing camera versatility in the iPhone 18 Pro as well.

Kuo noted that the iPhone 18 Pro’s wide-camera lens is expected to adopt a variable aperture, enabling users to adjust the amount of light entering the lens and fine-tune depth of field, potentially elevating the photographic experience. The primary shutter supplier is likely to be Sunny Optical, with Luxshare as a secondary provider, while Largan Precision may supply an additional variable aperture lens.

Currently, iPhones are limited to a fixed aperture in their cameras, which restricts control over light and depth of field. The rumored variable aperture feature for future models could offer iPhone users an expanded range of photographic adjustments and improved image quality across varied lighting conditions.
