Apple to Manufacture Its Own iPhone Camera Sensors

Apple may be planning to produce its own camera sensors for the iPhone, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In an article for his ‘Power On’ newsletter, Gurman explains that Apple is gradually bringing camera design work in-house, rather than relying on third-party suppliers. This move towards in-house production could also extend to cameras used in other Apple products, such as mixed reality headsets and the Apple Car. By designing their own camera sensors, Apple can have more control over component functions and better integrate software-hardware development. This is not the first time Apple has pursued in-house production of components, as they have previously developed solutions such as Apple Silicon, plans for a 5G modem, and a new battery technology for iPhones and other devices.
