Apple Explores Advanced Security Camera with Dual Recognition Features
Apple’s patented system combines facial recognition and bodyprint technology for enhanced home security.
Apple has secured a patent for a cutting-edge security camera system that leverages both facial recognition and “bodyprint” technology to identify individuals. Unlike conventional systems that solely rely on facial recognition, Apple’s approach incorporates additional physical characteristics, including the torso and clothing, allowing the system to identify individuals even when their face is obscured.
The patented system aims to elevate home security by analyzing and temporarily storing images of individuals’ physical traits, enhancing accuracy through deep learning models. This data helps the camera recognize frequent visitors and distinguish them from potential intruders. Users are notified indoors of identified individuals and can access live camera feeds via devices such as iPhones, iPads, or Apple TVs.
Reports indicate this innovation aligns with Apple’s broader exploration of the smart home market. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously noted Apple’s plans for a privacy-centric home camera and smart home devices, including a forthcoming smart hub. This hub is anticipated to control other home devices and support applications like FaceTime.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing a smart display, blending iPad and HomePod functionalities. Expected to resemble the classic iMac G4 design with a compact screen on a circular base, this display may serve as a central smart home management tool.
This move underscores Apple’s growing commitment to integrating advanced technology into the smart home ecosystem while maintaining a focus on user privacy and innovative functionality.
