Apple Introduces 'Bodyprint' Security Camera Technology
Apple’s new security camera uses ‘bodyprint’ and facial recognition to identify individuals.
Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, is reportedly making strides into the security camera market with innovative technology that integrates facial recognition and a new “bodyprint” system. According to a patent published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and highlighted by Gadgets 360, the advanced camera can identify individuals using a combination of their face and unique physical attributes, even when their face is obscured.
This development builds upon Apple’s existing facial recognition technology seen in its iPhone lineup. The patented security camera is designed to create a profile by analyzing images of a person’s body, including their torso shape and clothing style. By continuously capturing and storing images of individuals approaching a location, the camera leverages deep learning models to distinguish between different people. The system alerts users with a live video feed, accessible via Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, or Apple TVs, when a potential match is identified.
The patent filing aligns with Apple’s broader plans to expand its footprint in the smart home market. Beyond the security camera, Apple is rumored to be developing an array of smart home devices, including a privacy-focused home camera and a smart home hub. This hub is expected to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s ecosystem, featuring apps like FaceTime to provide centralized control of connected devices.
Apple’s latest venture demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user security and convenience within the realm of smart home technology.
