Apple Developing Smart Doorbell Camera with Face ID Technology

Apple aims to expand its smart home ecosystem with a new doorbell camera featuring Face ID and advanced security capabilities.

Apple is reportedly working on a groundbreaking smart doorbell camera integrated with its Face ID technology, offering a futuristic approach to home security. This device, set to revolutionize smart home systems, is designed to unlock doors automatically when it recognizes the face of a resident, functioning similarly to the Face ID feature on iPhones. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the product could be launched as early as late 2025.

The doorbell camera is expected to incorporate Apple’s Secure Enclave chip, which securely stores and processes Face ID data independently from the rest of the system. This feature ensures enhanced protection against unauthorized access, bolstering the security of the smart lock system.

Additionally, Apple plans to support compatibility with third-party HomeKit smart locks, broadening its appeal to a larger user base. Speculation also suggests potential collaborations with smart lock manufacturers to provide consumers with a seamless, all-in-one solution.

The device will likely utilize Apple’s proprietary “Proxima” chip, which combines Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality. This chip is anticipated to enhance connectivity across Apple’s ecosystem, as it is also slated for integration into upcoming versions of the HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.

Apple’s foray into smart home technology extends beyond the doorbell camera. The company is reportedly developing a new smart home camera, an Apple-branded television, and innovative smart home displays. Among these displays is a versatile iPad-like device capable of attaching magnetically to wall mounts or speaker bases, reflecting Apple’s focus on convenience and adaptability in home automation.

This ambitious initiative highlights Apple’s commitment to expanding its presence in the smart home market, blending cutting-edge technology with user-friendly design to redefine modern living spaces.
