Apple Developing Smart Doorbell with Face ID and Advanced Security Features
The system integrates biometrics, HomeKit Secure Video, and end-to-end encryption for enhanced safety.
Apple is reportedly developing a smart doorbell system featuring Face ID technology to unlock doors, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The innovative system will include a Secure Enclave chip to securely store and process biometric data, ensuring user privacy. Additionally, it will feature a deadbolt lock capable of automatically unlocking doors after verifying a user’s identity through biometrics.
To further bolster security, the system will utilize Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video service, which offers end-to-end encryption for storing video footage on iCloud. Apple plans to collaborate with either HomeKit-compatible smart lock manufacturers or a third-party smart lock company to deliver a comprehensive system upon launch.
While the doorbell system is anticipated to debut by the end of 2025 at the earliest, reports suggest Apple is also gearing up to launch a smart home hub next year, which will focus on integrating Apple Intelligence to enhance the home automation ecosystem.
