Apple Prepares New Smart Home Devices for 2025, Including HomePod and Smart Display
Apple is working on new smart home devices and chips, while Aqara and TP-Link gear up for CES 2025.
Apple is reportedly advancing its smart home ecosystem with several new products and innovations expected to debut in 2025. This includes the development of in-house custom wireless chips aimed at improving device-to-device communication, which is critical for the seamless operation of smart home systems. These chips are anticipated to roll out in Apple’s upcoming devices next year.
One of the major highlights is a new HomePod model featuring an integrated display. Reports suggest that the device will use an LCD panel manufactured in China, a decision influenced by cost factors, as the panels are estimated to be $10-$15 cheaper compared to alternatives from South Korea.
Apple’s smart home lineup for 2025 is expected to include a full-sized HomePod, an updated HomePod mini, a new Apple TV, and a smart display, further solidifying Apple’s position in the smart home market.
In addition to Apple’s developments, TP-Link has released its new Tapo P210M in-wall smart outlet. The outlet supports Matter for interoperability and includes energy monitoring capabilities via the Tapo app.
Meanwhile, smart home brand Aqara is set to unveil several new products at CES 2025. Among the leaked items are a presence sensor, in-wall display, smart light bulbs, and a new camera. The Aqara G5 camera is particularly noteworthy, offering flexible power options with both USB-C and Power over Ethernet (PoE), full-color night vision capabilities, and compatibility with HomeKit Secure Video. Aqara has also pledged future support for Matter once its implementation is finalized.
These updates demonstrate the growing competition and advancements in the smart home industry as companies like Apple, TP-Link, and Aqara continue to innovate with new technologies and products.
