Apple Reportedly Developing Smart Home Doorbell with Face ID Support

Apple is reportedly working on a smart home doorbell equipped with Face ID technology, according to a recent report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. This innovative device would allow homeowners to unlock their doors automatically by using facial recognition, integrating seamlessly with a deadbolt lock. The functionality is inspired by the convenience of Face ID used in iPhones and iPads.

In addition to the doorbell, Apple is also rumored to be developing other smart home products, such as a smart home hub and an in-home security camera. The smart home hub is expected to feature a 6-inch display and a specialized operating system, enabling users to manage various home devices, conduct FaceTime calls, and stream videos. Meanwhile, the in-home security camera will reportedly integrate with established security brands, including Google, Amazon Ring, and Blink.

Apple aims to leverage its strong reputation for privacy as a competitive edge in this market. The company believes its commitment to security and data protection will make its products more trustworthy compared to competitors, particularly those handling sensitive in-home security footage. Additionally, Apple could see an increase in iCloud subscription sales, as users store recorded footage—a feature previously offered through HomeKit Security Video. With many households typically requiring multiple cameras, this initiative has the potential to boost revenue in Apple’s Wearables, Home, and Accessories division.
