Apple Rumored to Launch Smart Home Doorbell With Face ID and Enhanced Security
Apple reportedly developing a smart home doorbell with Face ID and advanced privacy features.
Apple is reportedly working on a groundbreaking smart home doorbell and lock system that will integrate its Face ID technology. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the device is in early development stages and aims to seamlessly connect with compatible deadbolt locks. This setup would allow users to unlock their doors simply by using Face ID. While the system is expected to support third-party HomeKit-enabled locks, Apple may collaborate with a partner to provide a comprehensive all-in-one solution.
This product, if released, would position Apple as a competitor to Amazon’s Ring doorbell lineup. While Gurman did not confirm if Apple’s doorbell would include video capture capabilities, Apple’s existing HomeKit Secure Video service could play a role in securely storing any potential footage with end-to-end encryption on iCloud.
Privacy and security are expected to be central to Apple’s offering, as the doorbell may include Apple’s rumored Wi-Fi chip featuring a Secure Enclave for protecting user data. Gurman suggests that the product is unlikely to be launched before 2026.
Apple’s smart home strategy appears to be expanding significantly. In addition to the potential doorbell system, the company is reportedly planning to release a smart home hub next year and a HomeKit-enabled indoor security camera in the near future. The rumored camera would rival existing options like Logitech’s Circle View, further diversifying Apple’s presence in the smart home ecosystem.
This development comes amidst a broader push by Apple to innovate across multiple product categories, emphasizing user privacy, advanced technology, and integration within the Apple ecosystem.
