Apple Plans Launch of Smart Home IP Camera for 2026
Apple is preparing to enter the smart home security market with its own HomeKit-compatible IP camera and enhanced AirPods health functions.
Apple is reportedly developing its own security camera for the HomeKit platform, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at the Taiwanese firm TF International Securities. The camera, referred to as a “Smart Home IP Camera,” is expected to be manufactured by the Chinese company Goertek, which is already involved in Apple’s supply chain and has production facilities in China and Vietnam. While the camera is not scheduled for release until 2026, Apple aims to produce 10 million units annually.
The IP camera will likely integrate with Apple’s existing HomeKit Secure Video service, a part of iCloud+, which emphasizes secure, privacy-focused video monitoring. Until now, HomeKit Secure Video has required third-party cameras, such as those by Eve Home, making Apple’s entry into the market a significant expansion of its HomeKit ecosystem. The global smart home camera market is still developing, with current sales estimated at 30 to 40 million units per year, presenting a promising opportunity for Apple.
Goertek’s renewed collaboration with Apple follows a period of tension due to unspecified supply compliance issues, which had previously affected its order volume. This move appears to be part of a broader shift in Apple’s sourcing strategy, with Goertek expected to take on increased production responsibilities for Apple starting in 2025.
Alongside the smart home camera, Apple is working on health-related upgrades for AirPods. The new features are anticipated to include health management capabilities, possibly involving heart rate monitoring sensors, which may appear in both AirPods and Powerbeats Pro 2 models. Recent advancements have also turned AirPods Pro 2 into hearing aids for those with mild to moderate hearing loss. This move reflects Apple’s continued effort to diversify its product lines and expand into new consumer health markets, adding to its already profitable AirPods product segment.
