Apple Reportedly Evaluating the Launch of Its Own Branded TV Set
Apple may reenter the TV hardware market, contingent on the success of upcoming smart display products.
Apple is reportedly exploring the possibility of launching an Apple-branded TV set, according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. The tech giant is said to be considering this move following the release of its anticipated smart display lineup, which could arrive as early as next year. However, the release of such a TV set is likely several years away and far from guaranteed.
Apple’s first smart display, nicknamed “HomePad” by some, is expected to debut in early 2025. This entry-level device will be followed by a high-end version featuring a larger display and a robotic arm. Gurman notes that the success of these smart home products will be pivotal in determining Apple’s future in the smart home market. If these devices fail to gain traction, Apple may need to reevaluate its approach, potentially shelving plans for a branded TV set altogether.
Some industry observers remain skeptical about the feasibility of an Apple TV set. Apple already has a presence in the home entertainment sector with its Apple TV streaming boxes. However, there is speculation that the company could attempt to carve out a niche in the high-end TV market, albeit a limited one.
At the same time, Apple appears focused on promoting the Apple Vision Pro as a home theater alternative, which might conflict with efforts to enter the TV hardware market. Whether the Apple-branded TV set becomes a reality will largely depend on the market reception of Apple’s upcoming smart display products.
