Apple Vision Pro to Support Spatial Content Viewing in Safari

Apple Vision Pro users will soon experience spatial photos and videos directly in Safari, enhancing media viewing beyond traditional apps.

Apple Vision Pro users will soon have the capability to view spatial photos and videos directly within Safari. This new functionality extends beyond Apple’s Photos app and third-party applications, allowing content captured on the iPhone to be shared seamlessly on websites. The feature is compatible with spatial media captured on iPhone 15 Pro models and any iPhone 16, enabling a new level of immersive content sharing.

This update was highlighted by Apple’s Product Manager Della Huff and design team member Billy Sorrentino in a discussion with PetaPixel. According to Sorrentino, spatial media integration within Safari will allow website designers to tailor content specifically for Apple Vision Pro users. The platform will differentiate between users, displaying spatial media to those using Vision Pro while showing 2D versions to others.

Sorrentino noted the potential for converting historical photos, product reviews, and even video game images into spatial format, providing a richer viewing experience. This advancement in technology enables a range of applications, such as social media platforms that could support the sharing of spatial content, and websites like AppleInsider, which could incorporate spatial images into product reviews.

Importantly, this update remains inclusive. Users without Apple Vision Pro will not miss out on essential content, as spatial media will only act as an enhanced option. This update marks a significant step in Apple’s continued development of immersive technology, suggesting a broader adoption of Vision products in the future.
