Blackmagic Design Introduces the URSA Cine Immersive Camera for Apple Vision Pro

A groundbreaking camera tailored for Apple Immersive Video with 8K, 3D, and spatial audio capabilities

Blackmagic Design has announced the launch of the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera, the first commercial camera system developed to capture Apple Immersive Video for the Apple Vision Pro. Pre-orders for this innovative device are now open, with deliveries set to begin in early 2025.

The company has also revealed plans to update its DaVinci Resolve post-production software early next year, enabling filmmakers to edit Apple Immersive Video content shot on the URSA Cine Immersive camera. This end-to-end workflow is specifically designed to align with Apple’s advanced storytelling format, which incorporates 8K stereoscopic 3D video, a 180° field of view, and spatial audio.

The camera system is equipped with a fixed custom lens tailored for Apple Immersive Video. It features an advanced sensor capable of delivering a resolution of 8,160 x 7,200 pixels per eye, offering pixel-level synchronization and 16 stops of dynamic range. This setup allows cinematographers to capture 90fps stereoscopic 3D immersive cinema content seamlessly into a single file.

Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, expressed enthusiasm for the development: “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve. We are looking forward to collaborating closely with filmmakers and production companies on this groundbreaking production workflow before expanding availability later in 2025.”

The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera is expected to be a game-changer for capturing dynamic, immersive content across genres like action, drama, concerts, and sports. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, this camera aims to elevate storytelling experiences to unprecedented levels.
