Blackmagic Design Unveils URSA Cine Immersive Camera for Apple Vision Pro

First-ever commercial camera for capturing Apple Immersive Video, launching early 2025

Blackmagic Design has officially announced the URSA Cine Immersive Camera, a groundbreaking development as the first commercial camera system engineered to capture Apple Immersive Video tailored for the Apple Vision Pro. Pre-orders for the camera have commenced, with deliveries anticipated in early 2025.

The URSA Cine Immersive Camera features a fixed, custom lens system optimized for capturing Apple Immersive Video. It offers an impressive resolution of 8160 x 7200 per eye, 16 stops of dynamic range, and supports frame rates up to 90fps. Among its notable capabilities is pixel-level synchronization, a critical feature for creating high-quality 3D immersive cinematic content.

In alignment with this release, Blackmagic Design is set to enhance its DaVinci Resolve Studio software in the first quarter of next year. The updates will include an immersive video viewer, enabling seamless editing and playback on both 2D monitors and Apple Vision Pro. Additionally, the software will provide support for bypassing Vision Pro-rendered transitions using FCP XML metadata, ensuring pristine master file outputs.

Constructed with a magnesium alloy chassis and carbon fiber composite skin, the URSA Cine Immersive Camera upholds the durability and robust design of the URSA Cine series. It is equipped with multiple advanced connectivity options, including 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, and XLR audio inputs. Dual 5" HDR touchscreens are integrated for user monitoring and control.

The camera’s power system is versatile, featuring an 8-pin Lemo connector compatible with 24V and 12V power supplies, complemented by a 250W power unit and a B-mount battery plate, accommodating various high-voltage battery systems. The device also includes 8TB of built-in high-performance network storage, allowing over two hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D recording in Blackmagic RAW format.

To enhance post-production workflows, Blackmagic Design has introduced the Blackmagic Media Dock. This accessory provides rapid access to media from multiple URSA Cine Immersive cameras via four 10G Ethernet ports, ensuring efficient media handling and editing processes.

This innovative offering from Blackmagic Design underscores the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of filmmaking technology, catering specifically to the expanding field of immersive cinema.
