Eufy Indoor Cam E30 Brings 4K Recording to HomeKit, but With Some Limitations

Eufy launches its second HomeKit-compatible camera of the year, offering 4K recording and AI improvements, but some key features remain unclear.

Eufy, once thought to have abandoned support for Apple Home, has returned with its second HomeKit-compatible camera of 2024: the Indoor Cam E30. This model can be seen as an upgrade to the company’s 2020 indoor pan-and-tilt camera, which offered 2K resolution, alongside another fixed-position 2K camera.

The E30 comes with impressive specifications, including 4K recording. However, Apple Home currently only supports live streams and recordings in 1080p, meaning the higher resolution is somewhat underutilized. Full-resolution clips can only be viewed via the Eufy app. Additionally, the E30 connects via the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, with no indication of 5GHz support. While HomeKit Secure Video compatibility isn’t explicitly mentioned, the likelihood of it being supported remains high, given that most Eufy cameras are HomeKit Secure Video-capable.

Visually, the E30 bears a strong resemblance to the Indoor Cam C210, which lacks HomeKit support and offers 1080p resolution. The E30, however, includes several key upgrades, such as a built-in spotlight for color night vision. Standard black-and-white night vision is also available if you prefer a more traditional view. The camera is PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom), offering 360º horizontal rotation and manual control over its positioning—again, only accessible through the Eufy app. It can also be mounted to a ceiling with the included mounting plate.

One of the standout features of the E30 is its AI-powered tracking capabilities. The camera can distinguish between humans, pets, and various audio cues, improving the accuracy of tracking when using its pan-and-tilt functionality. Eufy claims significant improvements in AI performance compared to previous HomeKit-compatible models.

The E30 also allows users to install an SD card for local storage, meaning there are no ongoing subscription fees for cloud storage—though Eufy still offers cloud recording options. However, it is unclear whether the camera features the siren found in earlier PTZ models, despite it having an integrated speaker. Two-way audio support is also mentioned, but it’s uncertain whether this functionality works with Apple Home, as previous Eufy cameras have not supported this feature for Home users.

Some users might still be wary of security concerns, given the previous issues Eufy faced, where some customers were able to access the live video feeds of other accounts. Whether this will impact the reception of the E30 remains to be seen.

Priced at $69.99 on Amazon, the Eufy Indoor Cam E30 is currently available for $59.99 with a discount code, making it an affordable option for those seeking a 4K PTZ camera with Apple Home integration.
