Kino: A New Video App by Halide Team for iPhone
Kino balances professional-grade video features with an intuitive interface, redefining iPhone filmmaking.
The creators of the renowned Halide camera app have introduced Kino, a revolutionary video recording app for iPhone users. Designed to merge professional functionality with user-friendly simplicity, Kino offers a fresh approach to mobile video production.
Kino’s interface resembles the iPhone’s default camera app, ensuring familiarity while granting access to advanced controls like white balance adjustments and manual focus. Users can customize video settings, selecting resolution, frame rate, and codec options, catering to both casual creators and seasoned filmmakers.
The app’s standout feature, “Instant Grade,” allows users to preview color effects live while filming. Kino also includes preloaded color presets crafted by professional filmmakers and supports importing custom LUTs for personalized effects. Users have flexibility in saving their footage, choosing between the Photos app or Files app.
However, Kino comes with certain limitations. It currently does not support 4K 120fps Dolby Vision recording. Switching between lenses may experience slight delays, digital zooming is unavailable between fixed lens positions, and stabilization can be inconsistent at 60fps.
Priced at $20 on the App Store, Kino stands out as a premium app aimed at simplifying professional-style video recording on iPhones. Despite its cost, the app’s capabilities make it a worthy investment for those seeking to elevate their video content creation.
The developers have also announced an upcoming “Casablanca” update, promising additional features and enhancements to further refine the Kino experience.
