Apple's Display-Equipped HomePod Faces Production Delays
Apple’s smart home strategy hits a snag with delays in its HomePod with display, now expected post-WWDC 2025.
Apple’s long-anticipated HomePod equipped with a display has encountered significant production delays, according to reports. Originally expected in 2024, the device’s launch has now been postponed to after Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in the third quarter of 2025. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed the updates, citing software development challenges as the primary reason for the setbacks.
Initially slated for mass production in 2024, the timeline was later adjusted to the first quarter of 2025 before being further delayed. Kuo revealed that the delays stem from the complexities of software integration, a hallmark of Apple’s seamless ecosystem. The device represents a shift in Apple’s approach to smart home technology, emphasizing advanced functionality and deeper ecosystem integration.
The upcoming HomePod is expected to feature an A18 processor, a 6-7 inch display, and Apple Intelligence, the company’s cutting-edge AI technology. This aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to enhance its smart home product line. Additionally, Apple is rumored to be working on a smart home IP camera, scheduled for release in 2026, which will integrate with the display-equipped HomePod. This collaboration is expected to strengthen Apple’s position in the smart home market.
Early production estimates indicate approximately 500,000 units of the display-equipped HomePod will ship in the second half of 2025. If the product gains traction with consumers, annual shipments could grow into the millions, potentially redefining Apple’s footprint in the smart home space.
