Apple Could Have Discovered an Improved Method to Conceal the Notch on iPhones

Apple has been awarded a new patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office related to an Under Display Camera (UDC) system on iPhones. This technology would allow Apple to hide the Face ID and selfie camera behind the main screen of the device. The integrated display apparatus is composed of front and back layers with their own pixels and vents concentrated in one region, similar to the size of the notch on current iPhones. The camera is used with Apple’s TrueDepth sensing feature and will be hidden when not in use. Previously, there were rumors that LG Innotek is developing a similar UDC technology that will be adopted by Apple, but there is no new information to support this. It is believed that this technology may be ready as early as 2026 or for the iPhone 18.
