Top Analyst Predicts Increased Likelihood of iPhone 16 Pro Featuring a Tetraprism Camera
The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be equipped with a Tetraprism camera, according to top analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The Tetraprism camera uses four prisms to extend the focal length of the lens, allowing for 5x optical zoom. Apple’s implementation of the periscope lens, which is used in the Tetraprism camera, has been well-received due to its stability. Kuo suggests that improved manufacturing yields for the Tetraprism lens assembly by Largan, the supplier for Apple, is the reason why the iPhone 16 Pro will feature this camera. Initially, Kuo had also cited the increase in the iPhone 16 Pro’s display size as a reason for adding the periscope lens. However, with Largan’s increased production yield and profitability, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have the Tetraprism camera regardless of its screen size. Both Apple and Huawei are noted as the fastest-growing brands in global periscope camera smartphone shipments, with Largan supplying a significant percentage of Tetraprism zoom cameras for both companies. This suggests that Largan’s profits in 2024 will surpass expectations, and it can meet the demand for Tetraprism zoom cameras for the iPhone 16 Pro.
