iOS 18.1 introduces key features like Apple Intelligence, phone call recording, and camera enhancements, alongside crucial bug fixes and security updates.
Apple has officially launched iOS 18.1, the first significant update to iOS 18, bringing a range of innovative features for iPhone users. This version includes the debut of Apple Intelligence, call recording functionalities, new camera modes, and several crucial bug fixes and security patches.
Apple Intelligence
The update introduces Apple Intelligence capabilities specifically designed for iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPhone 16 lineup. While the complete range of Apple Intelligence features will roll out gradually, several functionalities are already available. These include tools to assist with proofreading, summarizing, and rewriting text across the operating system, along with smarter Siri capabilities, natural language summaries for emails and notifications, and enhanced photo management features such as custom slideshow creation and object removal.
Phone App Enhancements
iOS 18.1 introduces phone call recording, a long-awaited feature. Users can initiate recordings with a simple tap on a button during calls, and all participants are notified of the recording. Transcriptions are automatically generated and stored in the Notes app.
Camera Features
For iPhone 15 Pro users, spatial photo capture has been added, enhancing the already available spatial video feature. iPhone 16 models gain additional control over the camera, allowing for smoother transitions to the front-facing camera using intuitive gestures.
AirPods Pro 2 Health Features
The update also brings hearing health features to AirPods Pro 2. Users can now conduct hearing tests and adjust their AirPods to compensate for any detected hearing loss. Additional features include music and sound adjustments based on the results of these tests and a new hearing protection option that reduces exposure to loud noises.
Control Center and Apple Music Updates
New options in the Control Center allow users to manage Satellite and AirDrop settings individually. iOS 18.1 also adds the ability to share Apple Music songs directly on TikTok, further expanding Apple Music’s social integration.
RCS Business Messaging and App Store
Business messaging over RCS is now available for users communicating with businesses via Apple’s platform. Additionally, natural language search has been added to the App Store, simplifying the search process for apps.
Bug Fixes and Security Updates
iOS 18.1 addresses several persistent bugs, including issues with unplayed podcast episodes and 4K video playback. Security vulnerabilities in image processing, Safari downloads, Siri, and Spotlight have also been patched, with Apple urging users to update promptly to protect their devices.
The update represents a significant step forward in iOS 18, with major improvements across various applications and features aimed at enhancing user experience and device security.
