Apple's iOS 18.2 Update Brings ChatGPT and Visual Intelligence to iPhones
iOS 18.2 introduces advanced AI features including Visual Intelligence, ChatGPT integration, and AI image generation tools.
Apple has just released iOS 18.1, bringing the first wave of its Apple Intelligence features to iPhones. While this is exciting for many users, the forthcoming iOS 18.2 update promises even more transformative additions. Currently available only to developers in beta form, iOS 18.2 is expected to roll out to the general public in December, marking the full launch of Apple’s new AI-powered tools.
One of the key highlights of the iOS 18.2 update is the introduction of Visual Intelligence, a feature exclusive to the iPhone 16. This AI-driven capability integrates with the device’s camera, enabling users to analyze objects, translate text, and look up information about businesses or QR codes in real-time. With a simple tap-and-hold on the Camera Control button, iPhone 16 owners will be able to unlock a range of smart scanning functions, enhancing the everyday use of their camera.
Another exciting feature coming with iOS 18.2 is the expansion of Writing Tools, which debuted in iOS 18.1. This upgrade allows users to prompt Apple Intelligence for specific text adjustments, such as adding more dynamic language to a resume or transforming party invitations into poems. In addition, iOS 18.2 will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Writing Tools, providing users access to enhanced document and image recognition features. This integration offers more capabilities without needing to switch to separate apps.
Furthermore, ChatGPT’s arrival on iPhones doesn’t stop with Writing Tools. Apple has announced that ChatGPT will be integrated with both Siri and Visual Intelligence, offering expanded AI capabilities to handle tasks that Apple’s AI currently cannot address. This move will allow iPhone users to benefit from ChatGPT’s extensive language and problem-solving expertise.
Another standout addition in iOS 18.2 is the introduction of AI image generation tools. Through the new Image Playground app, users can create images by inputting text prompts. In addition, features like Genmoji, which generates custom emojis, and Image Wand, a sketch-to-image tool for the Notes app, will expand creative options on the platform. Even ChatGPT will contribute to AI-generated visuals, offering a different approach to image creation directly on iPhones.
As Apple continues to expand its AI ecosystem, users can begin enjoying these advanced features in the upcoming iOS 18.2 update. For now, the recently released iOS 18.1 already offers a more organized Mail app, smarter Siri capabilities, and enhanced photo-editing tools, laying the groundwork for more to come in December.
