iOS 18.2 Beta 3: New Camera Settings, CarPlay Icons, and More
Apple’s iOS 18.2 beta 3 introduces new Camera Control settings, updates to the Photos app, and refreshed CarPlay icons, with the public release slated for December.
Apple has released the third developer beta of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2. While earlier versions introduced major features like Apple Intelligence and significant updates to ChatGPT, Find My, and Camera Control, this iteration brings refinements across several apps, signaling that the software upgrade will be available to the public in December.
A key change in iOS 18.2 beta 3 is the new Camera Control button setting for all iPhone 16 models. Located under “Display & Brightness” in the Settings app, the “Require Screen On” option restricts the Camera Control button to function only when the screen is active. Disabling this setting removes the limitation, allowing users to activate the Camera app or third-party camera apps more freely.
Modifications to the Photos app include a redesigned video player. Videos now occupy a larger portion of the screen, eliminating the thick borders that previously surrounded video content, thus enabling a full-screen viewing experience without needing additional taps.
Apple is also preparing for the introduction of next-generation CarPlay, updating the icons for the “Climate” and “Media” apps in iOS 18.2 beta 3. Although these features are expected in upcoming 2024 car models, there are currently no vehicles with next-generation CarPlay functionality.
The iPadOS 18.2 beta 3 provides an enhancement for the TV app, enabling navigation bar customization. Additionally, in a more subtle yet noticeable change, the AirDrop icon in the sharing sheet now appears dark when Dark Mode is enabled, aligning with the overall aesthetic.
Lastly, Apple addressed specific bugs, including issues with Precision Finding and the “Play Sound” function for AirTags, AirPods, and Find My-supported accessories. These fixes aim to improve the reliability and performance of the Find My app.
