iOS 18.2 Developer Beta Reveals Upgrades to Find My and Camera Controls

iOS 18.2 is being tested by developers, introducing location sharing for lost items, improved Siri integration, and enhanced Camera Control features.

iOS 18.2, currently in developer beta, is showcasing new features aimed at enhancing user experience. With iOS 18.1 widely released, this latest version includes significant updates to key services like Find My and Camera Control, promising more functionality for users.

One of the headline features comes to the Find My service. Apple is introducing the ability to share the location of lost items more flexibly. Unlike the current restriction of sharing AirTag locations with trusted contacts, iOS 18.2 will enable users to share a lost item’s location with anyone, such as an airline when dealing with misplaced luggage. The link, which will expire in several hours or can be manually disabled, provides more adaptability in situations where broader access is needed.

Siri is also receiving an upgrade. Developers will soon be able to give Siri access to screen content, enabling context-based commands within apps. This development, if supported by app creators, means users could interact with Siri—or even platforms like ChatGPT—based on documents, images, or other displayed content, enhancing the virtual assistant’s efficiency.

The iPhone 16 series Camera Control button is also getting improved. An auto-exposure and auto-focus lock feature is being added, letting users fix these settings for more consistent shots. Furthermore, a new double-click speed setting is being introduced, with options labeled Default, Slow, and Slower. These improvements build on the current zoom and exposure adjustments, offering photographers greater control over their captures.

While these features are promising, their inclusion in the final iOS 18.2 release remains unconfirmed. The beta phase could still see adjustments or feature removals. The public release is anticipated in early December, alongside further enhancements, including ChatGPT integration and image generation capabilities.
