Apple Introduces Focus and Exposure Lock Feature in iOS 18.2 Beta

iOS 18.2 Beta brings the long-awaited focus and exposure lock feature to iPhone 16 users, enhancing camera functionality.

Apple has rolled out a much-anticipated update for iPhone 16 users in its latest iOS 18.2 beta: the ability to lock focus and exposure using the new Camera Control function. Introduced on Monday in iOS 18.2 beta 2 for developers, this feature enriches the photography experience for Apple’s flagship model.

New Camera Control Enhancements

Initially showcased at the iPhone 16 launch event in September, the focus and exposure lock was notably missing from the device’s initial release. With iOS 18.2, this feature is now available, allowing users to lock focus and exposure by pressing and holding the Camera Control function lightly. Once activated in the Camera app settings, this action maintains focus and exposure settings until the user lifts their finger, providing greater control for photography enthusiasts.

Additional Features in iOS 18.2

Apple’s iOS 18.2 beta brings more than just camera improvements. Even before the public release of iOS 18.1, the company had already started testing iOS 18.2, underscoring its significance. The update introduces new tools powered by Apple Intelligence, which include:

  • Genmoji: A feature for generating customized emojis
  • Image Playground: Tools designed for creating unique visual imagery
  • ChatGPT Integration: A blend of OpenAI’s conversational technology with Apple’s ecosystem
  • Visual Intelligence: An exclusive tool for iPhone 16 users, enhancing the device’s AI capabilities

The update also streamlines default app management and extends Apple Intelligence support to more regions worldwide, marking a significant enhancement to the iPhone’s functionality.

Availability

iOS 18.2 is expected to release to the public in December. For now, it remains in beta, allowing developers early access to explore the new tools and optimize their apps in preparation for the official launch.
