Apple Introduces iOS 18.2 Beta with New AI Features and Visual Intelligence

Apple’s iOS 18.2 beta brings advanced AI integrations like ChatGPT, enhanced camera recognition, and improved accessibility features.

Apple has quickly followed the release of iOS 18.1’s candidate version with the introduction of the first beta of iOS 18.2, adding significant artificial intelligence features. A standout addition is the integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This functionality allows Siri to handle more complex queries by sending questions to ChatGPT, providing users with accurate, AI-generated answers before launching searches. For example, Siri can now request detailed recipes based on specified ingredients, leveraging ChatGPT’s language and reasoning capabilities.

Another notable upgrade is the new Visual Intelligence feature, which enhances the iPhone’s camera to recognize objects and provide users with detailed information. This AI-based feature allows for the identification of pet breeds and the reading of posters, either via Apple’s on-device processing or through its Private Cloud Compute architecture. The aim is to improve accessibility for people with visual or hearing impairments.

The beta version also includes a new tool called “Image Playground,” which allows users to create custom emojis and transform their sketches into polished digital images. This feature is currently being tested, and access is limited to users who apply for participation.

Additionally, the Mail app has been redesigned to include more organized sections, specifically for updates, transactions, and primary emails, improving usability for everyday tasks.

Apple’s iOS 18.2 beta highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to blending AI with user experience, pushing the boundaries of personal device interaction and accessibility.
