iOS 18.2 Beta 2 Brings New Apple Intelligence Updates and Camera Enhancements

The latest beta introduces significant updates like AE/AF lock for iPhone 16, item location sharing, and more control over video playback.

The latest release of iOS 18.2 beta 2 continues to build on Apple’s ambitious Apple Intelligence initiative while adding notable new features to enhance the iPhone experience. Key updates include advanced Camera Control options, improved location tracking through the Find My app, and new customization settings for video playback in the Photos app.

iOS 18.2 beta 2 offers iPhone 16 users a practical update to camera functionality. The newly integrated AE/AF lock feature, long anticipated since its announcement during the iPhone 16 keynote, allows for seamless control over exposure and focus. Instead of tapping on the screen to lock these settings, users can now engage AE (Auto Exposure) and AF (Auto Focus) lock with a continuous light press on the Camera Control button. This update enhances stability and usability, making it easier to reset these settings by releasing the button, significantly reducing shake and allowing more intuitive framing under different lighting conditions.

Another addition is the ability to disable video looping in the Photos app. Previously, videos would continuously loop by default. Now, users can choose to turn off this feature by navigating to Settings → All Apps → Photos and toggling off the Looping option. This provides greater control over how videos are viewed, catering to user preferences.

A major enhancement in the Find My app introduces the Share Item Location feature. This tool empowers users to share the location of a lost item via a generated link, which remains active for seven days. The feature is designed to be useful for personal use and with entities like airlines for tracking lost luggage. It works with AirTags and other Find My-enabled accessories, and users can monitor how many people have accessed the tracking link. The option to deactivate item sharing at any moment offers further security and flexibility.

These highlights showcase only a portion of what iOS 18.2 beta 2 has to offer. The rollout continues to refine and expand Apple’s vision for intelligent and user-friendly device experiences, paving the way for more robust integrations and features in the future.
