Apple Postpones HomeKit Support for Robot Vacuums to 2025
Apple confirms that HomeKit support for robot vacuum cleaners will debut in early 2025, with Siri integration limited to U.S. English.
Apple has officially delayed the introduction of HomeKit support for robot vacuum cleaners, a feature initially announced alongside iOS 18 during the WWDC event in June. Originally scheduled for release within 2024, the feature is now expected to launch in early 2025. This update was quietly noted on Apple’s Home app webpage, which includes a footnote clarifying the revised timeline.
The integration will enable users to control robot vacuum cleaners through the Home app or Siri voice commands, though Siri functionality will be limited to U.S. English. The feature builds on the Matter 1.2 standard, which expanded to include vacuum cleaners last year. This standardization allows manufacturers to ensure compatibility with HomeKit. Roborock, for instance, has committed to bringing HomeKit support to its S8 MaxV Ultra vacuum model, and other brands are likely to follow suit.
Additionally, it is anticipated that vacuum cleaners integrated with HomeKit will support automations and scenes in the Home app, enhancing their functionality within smart home setups.
This delay is one of several for iOS 18 features announced at WWDC. While the initial set of AI-powered Apple Intelligence features arrived in October, more advanced capabilities are still under development. Apple is currently testing these features in the iOS 18.2 beta, with plans to release an upgraded Siri next year.
iOS 18, which is compatible with iPhone XR and later models, also introduced other smart home improvements, such as Ultra Wideband door lock support and guest access options for HomeKit accessories. Users can access the latest software updates via Settings > General > Software Update.
