Design and Build Quality

The first thing that struck me when I unboxed the iPhone 16 Plus was how familiar, yet subtly refined, the design felt. Apple has stuck with its signature minimalist aesthetic—a sleek aluminum frame with curved edges, a glass back, and the now iconic notch. The iPhone 16 Plus feels substantial in the hand, thanks to its 6.69-inch size, but it maintains a balance between durability and comfort. The ceramic shield is still part of the design, adding a reassuring level of protection.

While the design hasn’t changed dramatically from previous models, it still exudes that unmistakable Apple premium feel. The brushed aluminum looks sophisticated, and the weight is just right, neither too heavy nor too light. However, the phone’s size does take some getting used to. Typing or using it one-handed, especially while on the go, presents some challenges. Still, Apple’s combination of hardware and software makes even a large phone like this feel balanced.

Display

Apple has long been known for its top-tier displays, and the iPhone 16 Plus carries on that tradition. The smartphone features a 60Hz refresh rate, meaning it lacks the ProMotion technology that allows for a variable refresh rate, a feature exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. While some users may find the absence of 120Hz disappointing, the display still offers deep blacks, vibrant colors, and fantastic contrast. HDR content looks stunning, and the peak brightness of 2000 nits ensures visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. However, the thicker bezels around the display do detract from a fully immersive experience.

Performance

Powered by Apple’s latest A18 Bionic chip, the iPhone 16 Plus delivers excellent performance. Whether it’s graphically intense games, AR apps, or multitasking between several apps, the 16 Plus handles it all without any issues. One of the A18 chip’s standout features is its enhanced AI processing, which makes tasks like voice recognition, photo processing, and real-time language translation faster and smarter.

One minor drawback is heat buildup during extended gaming sessions or video editing. While not enough to be uncomfortable, it’s noticeable after about 30 minutes of heavy use.

Camera System

The camera design is one of the most noticeable changes on the iPhone 16 Plus, with the lenses now positioned vertically. While some may find this design shift more cosmetic than functional, the camera’s performance remains top-notch. However, its large size, slightly outdated bezels, and slower charging speeds may be drawbacks for some users. For those embedded in the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone 16 Plus is a solid upgrade. But if you’re coming from an iPhone 15 or prefer features like faster charging and bezel-less designs, it might be worth waiting for the next iteration.
