Apple's Plan to Upgrade iPhone 16 Pro, Pro Max with Tetraprism Lens for Enhanced Telephoto Camera
Apple is experimenting with a tetraprism lens setup for the iPhone 16 series, specifically the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This camera technology would enhance the optical zoom capabilities of the devices. The iPhone 15 Pro Max already features a 5x optical zoom, surpassing the 3x optical zoom of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The tetraprism lens utilizes a compact glass structure with a prism to reflect light four times, enabling improved optical zoom. However, integrating this technology into the smaller variant of the iPhone 15 Pro proved challenging due to space constraints. Apple plans to increase the display sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, compared to the 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches of their predecessors. It is unclear whether both models will have the same camera setup, but there are similarities in the tetraprism module and camera design between the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously predicted the inclusion of this advanced camera technology in the iPhone 16 Pro.
