Rumors suggest iPhone 16 Pro could receive significant camera upgrade to rival Galaxy S24 Ultra

Apple is reportedly planning to upgrade the cameras on its iPhone 16 Pro models with a pair of 48MP camera sensors, according to a Weibo post by user Instant Digital. This would be a significant improvement for the ultrawide angle lens, which has traditionally used a 12MP sensor. Apple is said to be incorporating its “pixel binning” technology to enhance low-light performance for the ultrawide lens. The Weibo post does not provide details on how Instant Digital obtained this information, and Apple has not confirmed the claim. Previous reports have also suggested that Apple may upgrade the telephoto lens on the iPhone 16 Pro. By the time the iPhone 16 is released, competitors like the Galaxy S24 Ultra may have introduced their own camera improvements, putting pressure on Apple to enhance its camera capabilities. However, specific details will likely only be revealed when Apple unveils the handset in the fall of 2024.
