iPhone 17 Pro Models to Receive Major Camera Upgrades
iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max expected to feature significant improvements in telephoto and selfie cameras
Analyst Jeff Pu has shared details about the expected camera upgrades for Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models. Following the improvements seen in the iPhone 16 Pro series, particularly the boost in ultrawide camera performance, Pu claims the next generation will focus on telephoto and selfie cameras.
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will reportedly feature a 48MP telephoto camera, a significant jump from the previous models. In addition, the front-facing TrueDepth camera is expected to see its first major upgrade since the iPhone 11 Pro, moving from 12MP to 24MP. These upgrades are likely to enhance both photo and video quality, with Apple potentially leveraging pixel binning technology to improve zoom functionality without degrading image resolution. Video creators could especially benefit, as the front camera may now deliver sharper, more detailed footage than ever before.
Apart from the camera enhancements, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could also introduce a slimmer “Dynamic Island” design thanks to the use of a smaller “metalens” for its Face ID system, aligning its look more closely with leading Android phones. Pu notes that the display sizes for the iPhone 17 Pro models will remain at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, with both versions featuring A19 Pro chips manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process.
With competitors like OnePlus and Samsung set to launch their flagship models in 2025, these upgrades could position the iPhone 17 Pro as a top contender in the smartphone market.
