iPhone 17 Pro to Introduce Horizontal Camera Layout

Leaked information suggests the iPhone 17 Pro will adopt a horizontal camera design, similar to recent Android devices.

A well-known leaker has suggested that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro will feature a horizontal, side-by-side camera layout, a design initially rumored for the iPhone 16 but ultimately not adopted. This new configuration is expected to better support spatial video across all three lenses, and if the leak proves accurate, it will align the iPhone 17 Pro with similar camera layouts seen in recent Android phones, including Google’s Pixel 9 Pro.

The leak comes from Weibo user Digital Chat Station, who has previously accurately predicted features such as the iPhone 16 Pro’s telephoto lens and its larger sensor size. According to Digital Chat Station, supply chain materials confirm that the iPhone 17 series will embrace the horizontal camera bump, though the exact arrangement of the three lenses is still unclear.

The shift to this horizontal design follows a broader trend in the smartphone industry, with many new Android devices expected to adopt similar layouts in the coming year. Chinese brand Meizu has already experimented with a horizontal lens configuration, though in their case, the lenses are vertically aligned.

In contrast, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a more minimalist approach with a single camera. While rumors have circulated suggesting that Apple might abandon titanium in favor of aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro, it’s likely that this reflects a misunderstanding of materials terminology.

As with all leaks, it’s important to note that details surrounding the lens arrangement and material choices could still change before the official launch.
