iPhone 17 Pro Max Rumored to Feature Smaller Dynamic Island Due to Face ID Changes
Upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max may feature a redesigned Dynamic Island thanks to a new metalens technology.
According to technology analyst Jeff Pu, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to a major change in its Face ID system. Pu, who has a solid track record with Apple rumors, first mentioned this development in May and reiterated it recently in a research note with Haitong International.
The key change lies in the adoption of a new “metalens” technology for Face ID, which allows for a more compact design. A metalens is a flat lens with microscopic patterns that focus light more precisely than traditional curved lenses. The introduction of this technology will reportedly reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, this change is not expected to apply to other models in the iPhone 17 series, including the smaller iPhone 17 Pro.
Dynamic Island, first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, has been a distinctive feature across the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models. Apple’s use of the metalens for Face ID in the iPhone 17 Pro Max may offer both design and functional improvements, though specific details on how Apple plans to implement this new technology remain scarce.
More information about the iPhone 17 series is expected to surface as its release approaches in September next year. This shift to metalens technology could potentially set a new standard for future iPhone models.
