iPhone 17 Pro to Feature Major Rear Camera Redesign, Rumors Suggest
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models could adopt a Google Pixel-style rear camera array in a significant redesign.
Recent rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro, set for release in 2025, could see a significant overhaul of its rear camera design, drawing inspiration from the Google Pixel series. According to a leak from a Chinese supply chain insider, the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera module will feature a rectangular aluminum bump, marking a departure from the current design that uses traditional 3D glass. The bottom portion of the bump will retain a glass finish to support wireless charging.
Wayne Ma, a journalist with The Information, previously reported that the new iPhone models, including the Pro and Pro Max variants, will adopt a “rectangular camera bump made of aluminum,” with the glass section on the bottom being essential for wireless charging support. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a centered camera bump with a single camera setup.
A separate leak from Weibo user Digital Chat Station, known for accurate predictions about upcoming iPhone hardware, appears to confirm this major shift in camera design. The source described the new camera module as having an elongated oval shape, although specific details regarding the arrangement remain unclear. The leaker also pointed out that many Android smartphones in 2025 are expected to feature similar camera designs.
This change would represent a notable departure from Apple’s iconic square camera bump, which was first introduced with the iPhone 11 in 2019. If true, the rumored Pixel-inspired camera module could mark one of the most significant design shifts for Apple’s flagship phones in recent years.
Apple fans may find the new design more appealing than its Google counterpart, as some early impressions suggest it looks better in concept renders than the Pixel’s current design.
