iPhone 17 Pro Max Expected to Feature Smaller Dynamic Island and New Display Technology

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup may introduce significant changes in screen sizes and technology, following the Apple Watch’s innovations.

Apple’s next iPhone series, anticipated to launch in September 2025, is expected to bring notable changes, particularly with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to recent reports, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a smaller Dynamic Island, reducing the area dedicated to the front-facing camera and Face ID technology. This change could be powered by a metalens, which allows for more precise light focusing compared to traditional curved lenses. However, this update may only apply to the Pro Max model, while the smaller iPhone 17 Pro will not include the same feature.

Both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are expected to share a similar display size of 6.3 inches, marking a shift from the current iPhone 16 models where the standard version has a 6.1-inch screen, and the Pro version measures 6.3 inches. In addition, a new model, the iPhone 17 Air, is rumored to debut with an unprecedented 6.6-inch display.

In another potential shift, the display technology in the iPhone 17 series could mirror advancements found in the Apple Watch Series 10. The watch uses LTPO3 technology, which enhances performance and power efficiency compared to earlier displays. Apple is reportedly considering implementing this same display technology in future iPhone models, although it remains uncertain whether it will be ready in time for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

These developments suggest that Apple continues to refine the design and functionality of its flagship devices, building on innovations introduced in other products like the Apple Watch. However, while the Pro Max may see these cutting-edge changes, the regular iPhone 17 models are expected to retain more familiar designs.

This new information aligns with earlier reports by analyst Jeff Pu, further supporting the idea that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will set itself apart from its smaller counterparts in more ways than previous generations have done. Apple’s decision to differentiate the Pro Max design more distinctly may indicate a shift in how the company approaches its premium devices.
