iPhone 17 Series Rumored to Feature Major Camera and Design Upgrades

Analyst predicts notable camera enhancements and introduction of the iPhone 17 Air model for 2025.

Apple launched the iPhone 16 series last month, bringing new features like Camera Control, the Action button on all models, and updated chipsets. However, attention is already turning to the iPhone 17 series, which is expected to debut in 2025. According to recent reports from Haitong International Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models could bring substantial camera upgrades and performance improvements.

Both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumored to feature a 48-megapixel telephoto rear camera, a notable increase from the current 12-megapixel telephoto cameras in the iPhone 16 Pro series. Additionally, the front camera on these models is expected to be upgraded to a 12-megapixel selfie shooter. These enhancements aim to elevate the iPhone’s photography capabilities.

Performance-wise, the iPhone 17 Pro models will reportedly include 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro models. This increase in memory is expected to enhance multitasking and Apple’s machine learning functionalities. The Dynamic Island feature, introduced with the iPhone 16, is said to be refined further in the iPhone 17 Pro Max, featuring a smaller “metalens” for the Face ID system, resulting in a slimmer Dynamic Island.

As for display sizes, the iPhone 17 Pro will maintain a 6.3-inch screen, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to have a larger 6.9-inch display. Both models are projected to run on the A19 Pro chip, produced using TSMC’s 3nm process technology, offering significant power and efficiency improvements.

In addition to the Pro models, Pu’s research highlights the introduction of a new model, the iPhone 17 Air (also referred to as iPhone 17 Slim), which is expected to replace the current iPhone Plus line. The iPhone 17 Air is said to sport a 6.6-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and the Dynamic Island. This model may also feature Apple’s first 5G modem, alongside a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel front camera. The iPhone 17 Air could mark a shift in design with a new, slimmer aluminum frame.

The iPhone 17 series, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 Air, is expected to launch in September 2025. Further details about the series are likely to emerge in the coming months.
