Beware of this iPhone feature that poses a threat to your privacy

Some law enforcement agencies are warning iPhone users about a new feature in the iOS 17 update called “NameDrop”. The feature allows users to easily share contact information with other iPhone or Apple Watch users by holding the devices close together. Apple states that after the devices connect, users can choose to share their information or receive the other person’s information. It is also possible to cancel the transfer by locking the phone or moving the devices apart before the process completes. The Middletown Division of Police in Ohio posted a warning on Facebook urging parents to change the settings on their child’s phone to ensure their safety. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan also issued a warning about the feature, noting that many people may not be aware of how their phone settings work. To turn off the NameDrop feature, users can go to “Settings,” tap on “General,” and then click on “AirDrop.” From there, they can toggle off the “Bringing Devices Together” option.
