Apple iPhone 18 Pro to Feature Variable Aperture Camera

Analyst predicts Apple will equip iPhone 18 Pro with a variable aperture camera, offering improved light control and depth-of-field adjustments.

Recent industry reports indicate that Apple is preparing to introduce a significant camera enhancement in its future iPhone models. While Android manufacturers have already adopted variable aperture cameras, Apple has yet to incorporate this feature. According to a recent report by The Information, at least one of the upcoming iPhone 17 models will feature a variable aperture camera. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro will also benefit from this advanced camera technology.

Kuo’s insights align with earlier reports, as many anticipated that Apple would bring variable aperture capabilities to successive iPhone models after the iPhone 17 lineup. Kuo further detailed that the primary camera of the iPhone 18 Pro will include variable aperture functionality, allowing users to control light intake and adjust depth-of-field more precisely.

Additionally, Kuo disclosed supplier details, naming Sunny Optical as the primary shutter supplier and Luxshare as the secondary supplier for the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera. Sunny Optical will also become the second variable aperture lens supplier, following Largan Precision, which is already involved in Apple’s supply chain.

Currently, all iPhone models are equipped with fixed-aperture cameras. The addition of variable aperture technology promises to elevate the photographic experience, providing users with greater flexibility in adjusting their camera settings based on lighting and scene requirements.
