iPhone 16 Camera Control Button to Get New AE/AF Lock Features in iOS 18.2
Apple’s iOS 18.2 introduces advanced AE/AF Lock settings and customization options for iPhone 16 users.
Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.2 update is set to enhance the photography experience for iPhone 16 users with new features integrated into the Camera Control button. These enhancements include the ability to lock auto focus (AF) and auto exposure (AE) settings. Introduced during the iPhone 16 event in September, these updates will give photographers greater control over their shots.
Users can engage this feature by pressing lightly on the Camera Control button to maintain consistent focus and exposure until releasing it. To enable this function, navigate to Settings ➝ Camera ➝ Camera Control, and toggle the AE/AF Lock option. Apple also provides customization for the double-click speed of Camera Control, with settings available for Default, Slow, and Slower responsiveness.
These additions build on the Camera Control capabilities that debuted with the iPhone 16, such as mode switching and swipe-to-zoom features. Accessibility options have also been enhanced, allowing users to fine-tune these settings through the Camera Button preferences.
iOS 18.2, currently in beta testing, is expected to be available to the public in early December. The update is part of a broader set of features that also includes expanded Apple Intelligence tools, updated AI integration, and Find My enhancements. Apple’s efforts to refine the user experience across devices demonstrate a continued commitment to innovation, as seen in both software and the latest Mac hardware announcements.
As the update rolls out, it will coincide with other significant events, like Black Friday on November 29, offering potential deals on popular Apple products. Additionally, new Apple News features will support live tracking of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, bringing real-time results directly to iPhone and iPad users’ Lock Screens.
