Apple is preparing to launch its iPhone 18 Pro series in 2026, featuring a groundbreaking variable aperture system for the wide-angle camera. This advanced feature will enable users to manually control the amount of light entering the lens, enhancing low-light performance, depth of field control, and overall image quality.
The production of this system involves multiple partners. BE Semiconductor (BESI) is set to supply assembly equipment for the aperture blades. Meanwhile, Sunny Optical has been chosen as the primary shutter supplier, and Largan Precision is anticipated to handle the production of the aperture lenses.
While some Android manufacturers have previously implemented similar technology, Apple’s iteration is expected to offer more precise control, akin to the capabilities found in professional cameras. This enhancement aims to provide users with greater flexibility in various lighting conditions and photography scenarios, reinforcing Apple’s commitment to innovation in smartphone photography.
