Apple's iPhone 18 to Feature Major Camera Upgrade with Variable Aperture Lens
Apple plans significant iPhone 18 camera upgrade, utilizing a variable aperture lens to enhance photography
Apple Inc. (AAPL) is preparing a substantial enhancement for the wide-angle lens in its high-end iPhone 18 model, set for release in 2026, as reported by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The upgrade will incorporate a variable aperture lens, aimed at significantly improving user photography experiences.
Chinese company Sunny Optical is projected to be the primary supplier of the camera’s shutter mechanism, with Luxshare serving as the secondary source. Meanwhile, the variable aperture lens itself is expected to come from Largan Precision. Kuo emphasized Sunny Optical’s pivotal role, noting its extensive experience in developing variable aperture cameras for Android devices, which aligns well with Apple’s requirements and could potentially lead to further orders.
The anticipated upgrade represents Apple’s ongoing strategy to enhance its premium product offerings in a competitive market. Kuo forecasts that iPhone shipments may grow by approximately 5% by 2025, surpassing 230 million units, bolstered by the upcoming ultra-slim iPhone 17. Released last month, this model features Apple Intelligence, the company’s latest technological innovation, which Kuo believes will support continued market growth.
Following the news, Apple’s premarket trading reflected a slight decline on Friday. As more details about upcoming iPhone models are revealed, market reactions are expected to reflect investor sentiment regarding supply chain adjustments and product enhancements.
