Kino Pro Video Camera App Wins Apple's App Of The Year Award 2024

Apple’s App of the Year 2024 goes to Kino Pro Video Camera, a powerful tool for iPhone creatives.

Apple has named Kino Pro Video Camera the coveted “App of the Year” for 2024, a recognition typically reserved for popular games or productivity apps. This year, however, Apple chose a tool aimed at creatives, highlighting the app’s ability to elevate iPhone video recording to professional levels.

Kino Pro takes full advantage of the iPhone’s camera capabilities, adding advanced features while maintaining an intuitive interface. Aimed at both novice and professional filmmakers, the app offers powerful tools such as manual exposure control, focus peaking, color waveform, audio meters, and more. Users can also apply presets from renowned filmmakers and colorists like Evan Schneider, Tyler Stalman, and Sebastiaan de With to achieve cinematic looks with ease. For more experienced users, Kino allows importing custom LUTs (Look-Up Tables) and offers an Instant Grade feature to apply these LUTs in real time.

The app boasts a range of controls to adjust settings such as shutter speed, ISO, and white balance, while helping users check for exposure and focus with real-time overlays. It also includes features like a built-in level for shot composition, RGB waveform for exposure checks, and focus peaking to fine-tune sharpness. Kino supports storing footage in Files, rather than Photos, ensuring better organization and easier management of content. A screen lock function prevents accidental taps that could disrupt filming.

Kino also allows for custom recording settings, such as shooting in 4K 60FPS Apple Log ProRes422HQ on the iPhone 15 Pro, but it also offers presets for users seeking a more flexible, simplified workflow. For just $9.99, users gain access to these pro-level features, enabling them to turn their iPhones into powerful filmmaking tools.

The latest version, 1.2.1, introduces several updates, including improved performance when recording at high frame rates and bug fixes to prevent crashes. The app now supports iOS 18 icon customization, offering a fresh, user-friendly look. It also enhances high-frame-rate video capture, supporting up to 120FPS at 4K on the iPhone 16 Pro. This version introduces Camera Control support for the iPhone 16 Pro, allowing users to adjust exposure, focus, and grading with a few simple swipes. The update also includes a new “Lock” option to prevent accidental swipes during recording.

For international users, Kino has expanded its language support, now available in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

Kino continues to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with iPhone cameras, making it an essential tool for filmmakers and videographers who want to take their mobile content creation to the next level.
