LG Innotech Prepares for High-Spec iPhone 17 Pro Cameras

LG Innotech invests in new facilities to support Apple’s next-generation camera modules.

LG Innotech, the leading supplier of Apple’s iPhone camera modules, is taking significant steps to prepare for the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025. The South Korean company has announced plans to upgrade its production capabilities, driven by the high specifications anticipated for the next-generation device.

The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to retain exclusive features like the periscope lens, enabling 5x optical zoom—a feature currently unavailable on other models. Industry insiders suggest that LG Innotech’s move to establish a new camera module facility underscores the complexity and advanced nature of the upcoming camera technology.

On November 21, LG Innotech confirmed its commitment to invest 375.9 billion won into the construction of a new facility under its Optical Solution Division. The investment aims to support the production of next-generation camera modules while maintaining the company’s competitive edge in the market. Despite holding the largest market share for Apple’s iPhone camera modules, this strategic decision appears focused on upgrading equipment to meet the demands of Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro series rather than expanding production capacity.

The iPhone 17 lineup is still some distance away from its official launch, and details about its camera innovations remain scarce. However, reports indicate that Apple may introduce a new model, tentatively referred to as the iPhone 17 Air. This model is expected to emphasize a slim design and advanced aesthetics, potentially making it one of the thinnest iPhones ever. Despite its sleek appearance, the iPhone 17 Air may come with trade-offs, such as a single-camera setup, and could still carry a price tag higher than some of Apple’s premium multi-camera models like the Pro Max.

While specifics about the iPhone 17 cameras and models continue to emerge, LG Innotech’s proactive investment highlights its dedication to maintaining its position as a vital partner for Apple’s ambitious technological advancements.
