New Thread-Enabled Smart Switch Launched

SmartSetup is selling smart Matter over Thread switches for the North American market. These switches are designed to replace standard single-gang US rocker switches, using the ‘Decora’ style and dimensions. Similar to switches from Eve, they require a neutral wire. If a neutral wire is available, these switches will function as Thread Routers, helping to extend the Thread network.

Since the switches utilize Matter over Thread, a Matter Controller and Thread Border Router are required. Fortunately, most of Apple’s current Home Hubs already cover this requirement.

SmartSetup, an Australian company, also offers its own app, though it only supports their HomeKit products and not the Matter versions. The SmartSetup Matter over Thread switch is currently available on Amazon.com for US$44.99 (price at the time of this article).
