Oppo Launches Find X8 Pro with iPhone-Inspired Features

Oppo’s new Find X8 Pro includes high-end camera technology and a shutter button similar to Apple’s recent iPhone 16 series.

Oppo has unveiled its latest flagship series, the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, in China, signaling its aim to compete in the high-end smartphone market with standout features and competitive pricing. The Find X8 series incorporates a distinctive shutter button, drawing design inspiration from Apple’s iPhone 16 series, with Oppo hoping to enhance user experience by simplifying the photography process.

The Find X8 starts at 4,199 yuan (around $590), while the higher-end Find X8 Pro begins at 5,299 yuan (roughly $745). Global prices are expected to vary based on region. The Find X8 Pro not only introduces the shutter button but is packed with flagship-level features for 2024. Equipped with a 6.78-inch display, the phone runs on Mediatek’s advanced Dimensity 9400 processor and houses a robust 5,910-mAh battery, supporting both 80-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging.

One of Oppo’s main selling points has consistently been its camera capabilities, and the Find X8 series builds on that reputation. The Find X8 Pro boasts a Hasselblad-branded camera module that includes four 50-megapixel lenses, two of which support 6x and 3x optical zoom, respectively. Oppo highlighted the phone’s ability to capture sharp images in motion, demonstrating it by photographing a jumping dog and contrasting it with a similar shot taken on an iPhone 16 Pro.

The Find X8 Pro also includes a hardware button, akin to the iPhone 16’s Camera Control button, which is pressure-sensitive, enabling users to zoom and capture images seamlessly. Another practical feature in the Pro model is an alert slider, allowing users to switch effortlessly between ring, silent, and vibrate modes—a concept popularized by Oppo subsidiary OnePlus.

In addition to hardware innovations, Oppo showcased AI-powered features in the Find X8 series. With tools that remove image glare and an option to identify objects in photos, the Find X8 Pro’s AI can recognize landmarks and provide contextual information. Users can activate AI assistance via the power button to identify scenic spots, recognize animals, answer queries, and more.

Despite Oppo’s relatively lower profile compared to brands like Apple and Samsung, the Chinese company commands nearly 9% of the global smartphone market, with an estimated shipment volume exceeding 103 million units in 2023, according to the International Data Corporation. While an exact timeline for the international launch of the Find X8 series remains uncertain, it is rumored to occur before the end of the year.
