Tesla Rolls Out Major Holiday Update with Apple Watch Key and Sentry Mode Video Access

Tesla introduces a groundbreaking holiday update featuring Apple Watch support, remote Sentry Mode access, and enhanced vehicle features.

Tesla’s annual Holiday Update for 2024 brings an array of innovative features to its vehicles, solidifying the brand’s reputation for pioneering automotive technology. The update, scheduled for rollout next week, includes key integrations like Apple Watch functionality, enhanced safety measures, and entertainment options for drivers and passengers alike.

Among the highlights, Tesla has finally introduced native Apple Watch support within its app. This feature enables users to use their watch as a digital car key, allowing them to leave their smartphones behind while retaining access to essential functions. With the watch, drivers can check battery status, open the frunk, and precondition their car remotely. Previously reliant on third-party solutions like “Watch for Tesla,” users can now enjoy a seamless, first-party experience.

Another major addition is the ability to view Dashcam and Sentry Mode footage directly from a smartphone. Drivers can save and share these clips, streamlining the process of reporting incidents to insurance companies or law enforcement.

Tesla’s light show, a fan-favorite holiday tradition, returns with two new synchronized shows and a festive “Santa Mode” specifically designed for the Cybertruck. In this mode, the Cybertruck’s on-screen avatar transforms into a Tesla Bot riding a cyber sleigh. Additionally, Cybertruck owners can now customize their vehicle’s appearance with wraps and custom license plates. Rear-seat passengers in the Cybertruck gain access to new arcade games, and the on-screen rear camera feed now supports pinch-to-zoom functionality.

The update extends the Model S and X’s auto-shift feature to the Model 3, enhancing convenience by predicting gear shifts between drive and reverse. Complementing this is a crucial safety enhancement: reverse cross-traffic alerts. This feature warns drivers audibly and visually of vehicles or pedestrians approaching from behind while reversing. Music volume now automatically reduces during reverse maneuvers, a practical touch long available in other brands.

Tesla also introduces route-specific improvements, including a new “arrival energy at destination” setting, precipitation indicators on navigation maps, and detour time estimates. The update brings an enhanced Sirius XM app, TuneIn app improvements, in-car maintenance summaries, adjustable unoccupied passenger seats, and even playful additions like seat-activated sound effects.

This feature-packed update showcases Tesla’s commitment to combining practicality, safety, and fun, reinforcing its position as a leader in the evolving automotive landscape.
